Word of the Day - Clover
The four leaves were actually three, once upon a time. You take scissors to them, and suddenly one pedal is two, and then you trim the edges so it looks rounded; sell them on street corners and laugh when people pay a quarter for a three leaf gone rogue. It's just...amusing, I guess. People think they bring luck. I've broken up with every boy who gave me a clover, for luck. Kept all the ones who tried to kill me, though.

ThirteenthWheel.
I fall in love with couples nowadays, it seems. Not the people themselves, anymore, but the feeling of being an outsider, looking in. I watch them, sit with them, pretend that I'm closer than I really am to enjoying that self-same feeling.
I just noticed today.
Not a thirteenth wheel for nothing.

Word of the Day - Deadbolt
The lock slammed shut. Well, not slammed, precisely. It wasn't even shut all the way, either. Not even mostly. But the deadbolt had been turned. Just enough to keep the door open, when it tried to swing shut. It was a mistake to turn the lock at all. Just let people in, instead of keeping them out.
Martie's mother had always told him to lock the world out was to lock himself in. He didn't like that idea. He liked the idea of letting people in, even though it meant he often lost precious items to opportunistic thieves.
